Markus Wien has studied and taught karate in Germany, Japan, and the US. His style is influenced by Yuishinkan GOJU-Ryu, passed down directly from Hanshi Fritz Nöpel. As a licensed trainer with decades of experience, he encourages individuals, sets clear expectations, and always remains personable.
"For me, karate is a way to empower people in their development – both on and off the mat."
When I first saw karate-do, I was fascinated by this martial art. My first encounter took place in 1985 in Kamen with Sensei Fritz Nöpel (†19.11.20), a 10th DAN in Goju-Ryu. As the official DAN representative from Japan, Fritz Nöpel is the point of contact for all Goju-Ryu karatekas in Germany. So I enjoyed learning Yuishinkan Karate-Do firsthand. After my visit to Japan in 1991, my trainer encouraged me to start my own club. In September 1992, the time had come: Dirk Jauer and Markus Wien founded the Karate-Do department at TV Asseln in Germany (Dortmund). Just eight weeks after the department was founded, the first admission freeze was imposed. This spurred me on to take my 1st DAN in Kamen in December 1992.
Seamlessly and with great commitment, I continued my karate training in the USA. Due to a two-year professional stay there and the urge to continue practicing this sport, which is so special to me, I also trained a group of enthusiastic karate kids there.
Since our return in November 2001, I continued training as usual and aimed for the 3rd DAN, which I passed on April 20, 2002, in Germany (Rheine). In January 2003, I initiated the founding of Yuishinkan Karate-Do Switzerland. My last exam took place on August 21, 2021, where I successfully passed the 6th DAN at the Honbu Dojo in Kamen (Germany).
